Gallifrey One Attendees 2016 In-N-Out Burger Run
Announcing the 2016 In-N-Out Burger Run. Once again it will be Thursday night before the Ice Cream Social. We will be meeting up starting at 5:45 by the Starbucks in the Marriott lobby. I will be wearing a black In-N-Out. I will try to match up those who have transportation with those needing it, but the majority of our participants walk, as a group, to the In-N-Out. Once there, I will be handing out special ribbons for being there. Please stick around for the photo that will be posted here. Its open to everyone and is a way to meet people before the convention officially starts. See you all then!

The Doctors Are In
From his beginnings as a crotchety, anti-heroic scientist in 1963 to his current place in British pop culture as the mad and dangerous monster-fighting saviour of the universe, the titular character of Doctor Who has metamorphosed in his 50 years on television. And yet the questions about him remain the same: Who is he? Why does he act the way he does? What motivates him to fight evil across space and time? The Doctors Are In is a guide to television’s most beloved time traveller by Graeme Burk and Robert Smith? Join them for a conversation about the book and about why the Doctor has been an enduring character for over five decades.

Larger than Life: The Role of the Companion in Modern Who
The modern series of Doctor Who has featured each companion doing remarkable and sometimes super human things… but in the meanwhile, there are massive cries for returning back to the old paradigm of a perfectly normal ‘regular person’ stepping into those shoes for the next round. We’ll discuss the evolution of the role of the companion, including addressing some of the reasons why people might be over the larger than life companion role (and why there are sometimes sexist notions behind that), and debating why developing the companion back into a supporting player might not be the best thing for the show in 2016.

The Burdens of Continuity
Doctor Who’s rich tapestry of storytelling often falls to fan service; often times we find ourselves looking forward solely to that twist that brings back a familiar face, a villain we cannot live without, or a voyage to Gallifrey or otherwise. But how does this shrink the canvas Doctor Who plays out upon? We’ll take a look at where continuity supersedes good storytelling… and why, paradoxically, the conservatism of some parts of fandom begets the notion that fans of a show about change seem to dislike change entirely.

Life and Death in the Moffat Era
These days it doesn’t seem like anybody who’s dead stays dead… it’s merely a setback! Or is it just another example of the wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey fun that keeps the show fresh?

The 2016 Masquerade of Mandragora... and Just A Minute!
Our Saturday night showcase... join our master of ceremonies Tony Lee as he introduces a procession of costumes from Doctor Who and the science fiction & fantasy world on our main stage, as costumers display their talents and compete for best-in-show and other awards. Then, while our judges go off to judge this year’s entries, Paul Cornell returns to our main stage to host another round of the popular game Just a Minute… and this year, we’re reuniting two of our most popular JAM players from ages past, Chase Masterson and Ian McNeice, for a 2016 showdown!

Masquerade entrants (costumers presenting on stage) should stop by the Masquerade Table, right at the head of the Exhibitor Table Hallway on Friday or Saturday before early afternoon. (There is a Masquerade meeting for participants at 2pm in the 18th floor Meet-Up Room.)

For attendees, lines begin to form after the closing of main programming at 7pm; this is the one major event at Gallifrey One that has lines, so get there early!

Prisoner Zero
Gary Russell, Jason Haigh-Ellery and Mark Oliver bring us a special sneak-peek at PRISONER ZERO, the new Australian science fiction animated series coming in 2016.  It's a brand-new animated sci-fi series aimed at 8-12 year olds - and beyond!!

'Prisoner Zero' is a science-fiction adventure series for kids. It tells the story of Gem Coll and Tag Anaton, two teenagers from different worlds, living aboard a spaceship called Rogue. They travel to alien worlds to fight monsters from ancient times, free the oppressed from the evil Imperium's tyranny and find out just who Prisoner Zero is and why the Imperium took away his memories. Leading the fight is Zero himself, aided by Gem's adoptive parents Del and Bowi Rev, the mysterious alien known only as Librarian and Tag's personal protection android, Guardian. The Imperium is masterminded by the sly, manipulative General Vykar along with his handpicked team: Prime Tactician Barqel and Prime Assassin Lady Kai.

Created by an army of young animators, Planet 55 Studios' new show pulls together a powerful struggle of good versus evil. Against an emotional backdrop of the teenagers trying to rescue their parents, Zero seeks to learn the secrets of his past that the Imperium erased while he was being held captive.

The 2016 Bob May Memorial Charity Auction
Gallifrey One’s annual charity event, taking place starting Sunday at 12:30pm… and this year hosted by our own Tony Lee and Richard Dinnick (who promise to keep it at or under three hours! This train’s gonna run on time!)

This year, as we’ve announced, the charity auction – as always, named in honor of our dear friend, the late Bob May of "Lost in Space" fame – will be benefitting the LUMOS Foundation, the organization started by J.K. Rowling that helps find homes, security and protection for orphaned and lost children worldwide.

We’ve partnered with Nerder Mysteries, a long time supporter of LUMOS, for our convention-wide game, "Let Zygons Be Zygons".  You can check in about the game at any time at the Nerder Mysteries table in the Exhibitor Table hallway.

Donations for the auction are always accepted and this year, you can drop off your donations at the first door down the Exhibitor Table hallway, right behind our Member Services desk.  Please see the Charity Auction page on our website to find out what kinds of donations we accept.
